1% for the planet 2025

Trails & Roots is a proud member of 1% for the Planet. This means that we donate 1% of sales (not profits!) to approved environmental organisations every year. These organisations have a proven track record of creating a positive impact locally or globally and work to protect biodiversity, conduct scientific research, or promote conservation. This year, Trails & Roots has chosen two organisations to support: BirdWatch Ireland and CREA Mont Blanc.
BirdWatch Ireland
As Ireland's largest independent conservation organisation, BirdWatch Ireland focuses on conserving and protecting wild birds and their natural habitat. With over 450 species of birds found in Ireland, they are vital to every ecosystem on the isle and are an integral part of Ireland’s landscape. BirdWatch Ireland manages nature reserves around the country that preserve threatened habitats, thereby protecting the wildlife that depends on them. They work in research and conduct surveys to monitor Ireland’s birds, tracking how populations fare over time. BirdWatch Ireland’s campaigning and advocacy work also promotes conservation-focused policy, ensuring that biodiversity protection remains on the government’s agenda.
CREA Mont-Blanc
The Research Centre for Alpine Ecosystems, based in Chamonix, France, specialises in studying natural mountain environments. They operate as a hybrid between a fieldwork organisation and an academic laboratory. Their important field work involves on-the-ground research from alpine meadows to mountain forests and scree fields to glaciers and everything in between. Their goal is to link the scientific community conducting this research and the general public, including citizens, students, decision makers, media, and businesses. They provide free access to all their research and aim to generate curiosity so everyone is motivated and informed to protect the world around us.

Everyone just comes together naturally, and the quality time and connections flow without effort.

Favourite Trail Camp meal/snack!?
The cake at the last lunch before everyone departs. It’s always spectacular, and it’s always the best cake you will ever have!
